End of the Year Craziness Has Begun!

It is the end of the school year for us and the craziness has definitely begun.  I feel like we are trying to get those last objectives taught and still trying to make it fun and engaging.  It seems that the kids believe MAP testing to be the official end of the school year, even though we had another month left to go.  Trying to get ourselves in a happy place is also hard right now...teachers are tired. Kids are tired.  Rinse and repeat.

I'm scheduled to teach summer school.  This will be the first time in a long time. I taught it 12 years ago.  I'm looking at the next two weeks of school and longing to be done, but there is four more weeks after that.  It will be an experience for sure. I am hoping that the four weeks go fast and I can make it a fun and enjoyable time in the classroom. I pick up my materials tomorrow, so I get to find out what I'll be doing then.

I am looking forward to having time to spend at home with my kids as well, so come on July!

Wow!  I made it. Thirty-one days of writing on this little blog.  I am so proud of myself for finishing the Slice of Life challenge, hosted by Ruth and Stacey at Two Writing Teachers.  I don't think that I could have imagined that I would finish a month of blogging. A month of writing.  I have truly enjoyed this challenge.  I remember why I love writing.  I have been able to try new styles of writing.  I have also been able to read some really powerful posts from some really terrific writers.  I have learned more about the subject that I teach.  I have come across great ideas for my classroom.  I have laughed and cried with others from around the world.  Thirty-one days may be a short blip in time, but thirty-one days has helped me to become a stronger writer.  Thank you to all the people who have read and commented.  That has meant a great deal to me.  I have grown to love the community of writers who support and encourage one another. SOL 3/16 Plugging Away

16 of 31 for the Slice of Life Challenge from Two Writing Teachers Today is my 41st post for this blog.  When I started this a few years ago, I don't think I could have imagined where I am now.  Teaching again, Trying to get fit.  Juggling three teen/preteens and work and just life in general.  I know I couldn't have imagined that I would join a writing challenge that asked me to write everyday for a month.  I am sure that that Sarah would have just laughed, and said "Yeah, right!"  But here I am, on my 16th day of blogging consistently, writing my 41st post.  While I'm sure this achievement is a drop in the bucket for some, I am choosing to see this as a good starting point.  A place that I realized that I can write, even if my audience is pretty tiny.  I am making a start, and that is a pretty cool thing.

SOL 3/6 What Makes You So Special?

  6 of 31 for the Slice of Life Challenge from Two Writing Teachers Do you have any quirks that make you a little special?  A little different than everyone else out there?  There are certain habits that we all have that might be peculiar to others around us.  My kids remind me of this all the time. Every time we go any where that has an escalator, my kids make fun of me.  For some reason, I apparently have the same routine.  I always let the kids go on first...I suppose this comes from the mom in me making sure they are all on and safe.  And then I will wait at least one step before I get on.  I'm not sure why, but I do this.  I wouldn't even know that I do this without my kids being so kind to point this habit out...and by kind, of course I mean they ridicule me endlessly. I also have strange driving habits, such as never turning left unless it is absolutely a necessity.  I will turn right and go around the block before having to turn left against traffic.  I don'
